Lyrics
“Yellowstone” – Written by Esther Bertram – Performed by POST
Red dust you’ll be gone with no anger on my back
You have always wondered if this road was winding back
But I see sunrise at the Yellowstone at the Yellowstone tonight
Put your boots aside there’s no need to lead the way
You have always kept them just in case there’d be a day
But I surrender at the Yellowstone at the Yellowstone tonight
When it’s clear in morning light the mist will rise beyond delight
The snowdrops sigh but looks can be deceiving
When it’s clear a starry night the mist will land behold the sight
The shadows fall because they love that feeling
In the Yellowstone in the Yellowstone tonight
Take a good look outside see the mountains on your back
You have always galloped with no need for turning back
Beyond your stable is your Yellowstone is your Yellowstone tonight
Put your fears aside they are old and don’t belong
You have always kept them just in case that you we’re wrong
Burn them in the fire
At your Yellowstone at your Yellowstone tonight
When it’s clear in morning light the mist will rise beyond delight
The snowdrops sigh but looks can be deceiving
When it’s clear a starry night the mist will land behold the sight
The shadows fall because they love that feeling
Tainted souls can hear the call hear the call beyond the wall
They see the light when others find it blinding
Tainted souls can hear the call hear the call beyond the wall
They break it down down down
In the Yellowstone in the Yellowstone tonight
Put your gun away you have won this fight before
You have always kept it just in case she’d closed the door
But she surrenders at the Yellowstone at the Yellowstone tonight
Red dust you’ll be gone with no anger on my back
You have always wondered if this road was winding back
But I see sunrise at the Yellowstone at the Yellowstone tonight
The Story
Yellowstone was one of the songs that began shaping the world POST would eventually inhabit — voice, guitar and cello moving through something spacious, cinematic and a little untamed.
It became one of our earliest releases to find its way beyond us, quietly gathering listeners in different parts of the world and giving us the first sense that these songs might travel further than we imagined.
The landscape has changed since then, and so have we. But Yellowstone still feels like a beginning: a road disappearing towards the horizon, a little light in the distance, and the feeling that somewhere beyond what you can see, something is waiting.
